Basically, it is partially precooked rice. Parboiling rice is done through three ways; soaking, steaming and drying the rice with its husk still unremoved.

The first tip is to soak the rice for thirty minutes. Why? Soaking it can reduce the amount of cooking time. More flavorful rice can be achieved when you cook it in less time than usual.

Second is to drain the rice before cooking. Put it into a sieve to drain the rice .

The third procedure is to boil water with a pinch of salt. If you’re wondering about the quantity of rice and water, use the 1:2 ratio where 1 part is the rice and the 2 is the part of water.

Just as the water boils, add one part of the parboiled rice to the boiling water and stir it quickly to evenly distribute the rice into the pot. Make sure that the soaked rice is sieved to avoid hot water from splashing when rice is being put into the boiling water.

Cover it and simmer it for 15-20 minutes or until it’s cooked.

Make sure it’s cooked; stir and serve immediately.. and serve immediately..

Wait for the rice to be cooked in the rice cooker and as soon as the indicator says it is cooked, the rice cooker will automatically turn off.

Final Thought

Parboiled rice is way easier to cook than regular rice, plus it is healthier. It can be cooked in some easy methods, but in my opinion cooking it in rice cooker is more convenient, specially to those busy person out there who always multi-task in their kitchen.

If you don’t have a rice cooker at home, you can use your microwave, but it requires you to supervise the cooking.

Use a stove if you prefer it more than the two methods mentioned above.
