It is always more comfortable to stay in clean, tidy spaces. Besides, cleaning the apartment is also important for our health. To protect ourselves from diseases and bacteria, our home must always be clean and tidy. Sometimes, though, it’s hard to determine how often things need to be cleaned in the house. Some need to be cleaned daily, others every week, and some only a few times a month or even a few times a year. How often we need to clean depends not only on our habits but also on the room we are cleaning. So how often to clean what in the home?
Let’s start with something simple. If you wash dishes without using a dishwasher, try to wash the dishes every day and store it in place. Dirty dishes can attract bugs, especially ants, they can start to smell bad, and it is also harder to wash when food is on them. Washing dishes daily also prevents the formation of bacteria. If you use a dishwasher for washing, you can afford to wash it every other day because the dishwasher washes at high temperatures that will kill bacteria which cannot be achieved by hand washing.
They should wash the floors several times a month to remove any dirt that has stuck to it. Kitchen floors should be washed a little more often though because we know they get dirty a lot faster. Also, food bacteria can spread on your home floors so they need to be washed to remove bacteria.
Kitchen counters & table
Wipe the kitchen counters and tables with a damp cloth at least once a week to clean all dirt and stains from them. Every day when you do something on them, then wipe them so that there are no crumbs left that can attract insects to your home.
The bathroom is the place where bacteria grow the fastest and easiest, so it needs to be cleaned often, at least once a week. During the week, the remnants of our hair and dirt accumulate on bathroom surfaces. It will be easier for you if you wipe the bathroom behind you every day so you don’t have to bother once a week with removing dirt from all the bathroom surfaces.
The toilet is one of the most germ-ridden areas of the home. In case you didn’t know, every time you flush water, the waste in your toilet mixes with water and sends microbes into the air. These germs can land all over your bathroom (toilet seat, lid or other surfaces). Every couple of days, wipe the toilet seat and sides with a bleach wipe. It would be a good idea to rub a toilet bowl once a week using a strong toilet brush to remove any bacteria.
Wipe the sink several times a week. You brush your teeth every day so that the remnants of the paste can accumulate on it, as well as numerous hairs and water stains. Wipe off the paste every day and remove the hair from the sink so that you don’t have to bother with crust stains later.
Shower and tub
It is enough to clean the bath and shower once a week when you clean the whole bathroom. If you have glass shower doors, wipe them every time after showering. Although it is not necessary to do so, if you do not wipe them after each shower it is possible to make soap stains on them which you will have to scrub after a week. So that you don’t have to bother later, make your job easier and simply wipe them off right away.
If you have a shower curtain, you should wash it at least once a month. Even though you bathe in clean water, the curtain gets dirty over time and may even start to mold, so it is important to change it regularly and keep it clean.
Since the bathroom is a breeding ground for bacteria, you should wash the bathroom rug every week. It is advisable to wash it at high temperatures, but be sure to look at the washing machine washing instructions on it.
As with the sink, water droplets, dust, or toothpaste residue may appear on the mirror. To keep your mirror always clean, simply wipe it every day when you get out of the shower while there is steam on it and it will always be bright and clean.
Every day after washing our hands we wipe our hands from our towels. Sometimes we don’t wash our hands properly so we leave a small number of bacteria on the towel. To make sure that every time we wipe our hands we take off and do not pick up bacteria, hand towels need to be changed every other day.
Every day when we get out of the shower we wipe ourselves with a towel leaving dead skin cells on it. These same cells contain bacteria and if you smell a strange smell on the towel, these are actually bacteria that have started to grow on your towel. To defend against them towels need to be changed after three or four uses. Care should also be taken to always wash towels at high temperatures to kill the bacteria found on them.
We are in bed every day and so our bed becomes full of dead skin cells, mites, and bacteria. To avoid microorganisms harming us, we need to change the bedding regularly. Pillows need to be washed every three months. To make sure you have removed all microorganisms, wash the pillowcase at 60 degrees.
Bed sheets should be changed once every two weeks, and more often in the summer. Sweat, body oils, dirk, and the remains of various cosmetic products accumulated on them.
Mattresses need to be cleaned twice a year or better yet, once a year. Cleaning the mattress is not that difficult. Vacuum it, clean off stains from it, deodorize it, then rotate it or flip it over.
Be sure to wipe off the dust of accessible areas once a month. Every three to six months, wipe off dust in hard-to-reach places such as high shelves, ceilings or door frames. Move furniture and remove dust so as not to cause health problems. To always know when you last cleaned the dust all over the house, it may be best to dust it at the beginning of each season.
Although there are no rules that determine how often the microwave should be cleaned, it would be best to clean the microwave once a week. If you use it less you will simply see when it is dirty, then put a bowl of water and lemon juice in it and put it in the microwave for 3 minutes. The fridge is the most used appliance in the kitchen so it needs to be kept clean regularly. Every 3 months, take out all the food and wash it whole. Regularly throw out expanded food and immediately wipe all stains so that your refrigerator does not stink.
We know that an oven can make our lives easier, but it can also be quite greasy. To be clear, it needs to be thoroughly cleaned at least twice a year.
The stovetop needs to be cleaned after each cooking so that it is not covered with oil, grease, and food that you accidentally spill. The drip pans on the other hand you can clean every couple of months.
If you have carpets, they need to be vacuumed at least once a week to remove dust, dirt and allergens. If you have a pet you should vacuum more often to remove hair that will surely be around the house.
If you use a dishwasher every day, you should clean the dishwasher’s filter and drain the dishwasher once a month. This will help keep your dishwasher working smoothly and keep your dishes clean.
To prevent unpleasant odors from garbage disposal and keep your drains clear, clean your garbage disposal at least once a week. You can easily do this using 1/2 cup white vinegar in combination with 1/2 baking soda.
It is easy to vacuum or spot clean your carpets, but during the year many batteries and dirt get into the carpet and need to be removed by deep cleaning. It needs to be thoroughly cleaned every 12 to 18 months. You can take it to a professional cleaner or wash it yourself.
Like everything in your home, curtains collect dust and absorb odors over time, so they need to be washed every 3 to 6 months.
