Best Cordless Irons

Cordless irons have been an absolute hit ever since big brands started manufacturing them. The cord can often be a problem – that’s what most users agree on, as it limits the movement of the iron. However, this innovation allows us to iron our clothes without those restrictions.

Ever since that product first appeared on the market, every big iron manufacturer started to produce their own irons, moving the limits one by one. In today’s article, we’ll be taking a close look at those irons to determine which one’s the best fit for your needs.

Let’s get started!

Panasonic NI-WL600 Cordless – Best Overall

This is without a doubt the best iron on this list! Panasonic is known as a company that really does its job well, so it’s no surprise that they pulled it off with the whole cordless iron trend. There’s no cord with this iron and it’s movable in a 360-degree arc, allowing you to move completely freely.

It has a wattage of 1500 watts, which allows you to end the hassle of twisted, tangled power cords for quicker, easier, more convenient ironing on a variety of fabrics. Know that most irons that have cords usually have wattage around that number, as well – so you’re not losing power with this cordless iron. Panasonic found a way to keep the same level of power without a direct connection.

The double-tipped design of the soleplate allows you to move naturally in any direction. You can iron effortlessly forward, backward, and even side-to-side for precision and speed. The soleplate is non-stick and dual-tipped, which allows it to maneuver seamlessly over the fabric without tugging or wrinkling. Despite the cord (or the lack of one) being the most important feature here, the soleplate is incredible and deserves some attention.

You can control both the temperature and steaming while you can also apply the perfect level of heat and steam, or no steam with the touch of a button. This allows you to control the whole iron completely, while it also has the option of vertical steaming which quickly removes wrinkles on curtains and hanging garments.

You also don’t have to worry about transporting this iron, as it comes with a lightweight, heat-resistant carrying case that simply snaps onto the iron – this allows you to move it around as you’d like, without any fear of damaging it.

The simplicity of it is also notable, as all you have to do is set the NI-WL600 into its charging base and set the temperature for the fabric you’re ironing. It usually takes less than two minutes for it to charge up and for the iron to heat up to the desired temperature, after which you’re ready to go. The heat is going to need to be maintained and to do that just place the iron back in the base when you pause to shift garments on your ironing board.

The manufacturers have made it easy to control this iron, as well – the electronic temperature controls on the iron’s ergonomic handle make it quick and convenient to select and adjust all the right temperatures for a wide variety of fabrics. You’re free to choose your settings and apply just the right amount of steam – or no steam at all. You can set the settings to HIGH for your heavier and everyday fabrics, LOW for delicates and touch-ups, and DRY when steam isn’t needed.

The vertical steam option this iron has will come in handy if you need to steam your curtains, dresses, suits, etc. – at a push of a button, you can direct a full burst of steam through the soleplate to relax and remove wrinkles and creases. It also has the function to send a jet of steam to tame creases and wrinkles in clothing and sheets.

You can also shoot some moisture exactly where you need it to help remove stubborn wrinkles from sleeves, collars, and trousers – all that at a press of a button.

Another impressive feature of this design is the auto-shutdown system – this system will turn the iron off automatically if it recognizes that it hasn’t been used for 10 minutes. The stay-clean system is here to ensure that your iron is always in top condition and that there’s no buildup of minerals and other harmful stuff, especially calcium.

Sunbeam Versa Glide Cordless – Best for Budget

If you’re on a tight budget, you’re not necessarily out of depth when it comes to buying cordless irons. Naturally, cordless irons are much more expensive in comparison to their corded counterparts – however, even at that price, there are still cheaper alternatives to most irons on this list. If you’re looking for that alternative – then look no further.

This iron actually works both corded and cordless, so you can use it without the cord as long as the battery has charged, and then switch to cordless when you have to charge it again. This flexibility of use allows you to be even more independent from electricity than some other irons on this list do.

The base is here for the iron to be set on it – place it on the base for set temperature reheating and recharging; it’s compact for easy storage in your closet or cabinet. The complete product is made from stainless steel, so you don’t have to worry about your iron-wearing with time.

Stainless steel is also the best material of choice when it comes to the process of ironing itself – this smooth plate will glide over your garments. The soleplate is durable for many years of use.

The design features a few anti-calcification measures, ensuring that calcium doesn’t build up in your iron, while the anti-drip system prevents leaks – ensuring that there’s no water coming out of your soleplate.

The levels of steam are completely adjustable, allowing you to have full control over your iron.

The only drawback of this iron is the fact that it takes a bit more time for it to heat up. However, if you’re not in a rush and this won’t be a problem for you, then this is definitely the iron you want to buy if you’re aiming for a low price.

PowerXL Cordless Iron – Premium Option

This cordless iron is definitely going to impress you, and its main feature is speed. The cheetah of cordless irons, PowerXL Cordless Iron charges to full heat in only 30 seconds and recharges when you put it back in the power base! You get the cordless freedom and versatility you need for faster, easier, professional-quality ironing at home – without the limits of electrical cords that twist and tangle or get stuck on the ironing board.

The Temperature Ready indicator light tells you when the iron is heated and ready.

This iron is a bit different when it comes to the soleplate – it’s not made from stainless steel, rather from ceramic. It uses advanced ion technology, as well – this allows for an extra smooth glide with the ultra-strong and scratch-resistant Ceramic Non-Stick Soleplate. This soleplate retains heat for ironing while protecting delicate and heavy fabrics.

It’s designed with a tapered tip for multi-directional ironing; you use it on shirt collars or in the thin spaces between buttons or beads with pinpoint precision.

This iron also uses a self-cleaning system which ensures longevity. It also has an anti-drip system that prevents leaking when ironing at low temperatures.

You can also do vertical steam bursts with this iron – bursts of high intensity are let through 19 optimized steam release points and they’re easily going to relax and smooth wrinkles almost instantly for the best results. The PowerXL Cordless Iron is the perfect steam iron for garments or drapes; you no longer have to remove them from the hanger.

The temperature control dial also lets you choose your fabric type and sets the correct temperature for you. This ensures that you have full control over the iron and that it’s never too hot or too cold. The advanced adjustable steam lever goes from zero to full power with just a quick slide.

The handle itself is easy to grasp and it’s ergonomic – ensuring that you have a full comfort when you’re ironing.

Something that’s completely understandable about cordless irons is that there’s not too much room for water – for instance, this iron has a water container of only 370 milliliters of storage (compare that to some heavy-duty irons that have a liter of storage). That isn’t a problem though, as the water is heated up in 30 seconds.

However, this iron is very light – weighing less than 2 pounds!

The only real drawback to this iron is its price – it really is premium on every single level, and it should be thought of as such.

Black and Decker Light ‘N Go Cordless Iron

Black and Decker need no introduction to the ironing scene, and they’re here with a cordless iron that’s bound to draw some attention. The cordless design allows you to iron the easy way, without worrying about tangling or getting caught up on the ironing board. You have full freedom of movement!

This iron uses a very smart design that truly shows the manufacturer’s understanding of the ironing process – the iron allows you to iron for 25 seconds without a cord, before having to put the iron back on the base for a recharge. It’s intended for you to iron your clothes for 25 seconds, put the iron back on base for a charge, and shuffle or reset the clothing (or grab another piece) while it recharges – the recharge takes only 10 seconds, so it’s not too long!

This is different from all the other irons on this list, as they all insist on being charged and using a battery – this iron uses your time off the iron to recharge in small intervals. The light ring on the base makes it very clear to you when it’s time to recharge the iron and when the iron has completely recharged.

This is another iron with a ceramic, nonstick soleplate. This durable soleplate efficiently retains heat and smooths out wrinkles on a variety of ironable fabrics.

This iron also incorporates the auto-shutoff system – it’s going to turn itself off automatically if it’s left unattended for 8 minutes! You don’t have to worry about any home hazards with it.

You also have different options when it comes to steaming – feel free to spray mist or a burst of steam on your fabrics. Spray mist to get to those really stubborn areas of your clothes.

The water tank of this iron is quite large, definitely so in comparison with other cordless irons, so you don’t have to worry about running out of water. The cord of the charging base is 6 feet long, so you can definitely reach it from any corner of the room.

The self-cleaning function of this iron is here to ensure that you don’t have to worry about the longevity of this iron – it’s enough to avoid scale buildup and to ensure that there are no problems with calcium.

Panasonic NI- L70SRW Cordless Iron

Very similar to the previous entry from Panasonic’s factory of cordless irons, this is the little brother of the original NI-WL600 – with the most important difference being in the shape of the soleplate. The former was oval, while this one is shaped like a triangle.

The rest of the iron is mostly the same – completely cordless with a full circle of movement – this will not only eliminate the mess and inconvenience of twisted, tangled power cords but also put an end to the annoying ironing board snags that slow you down and prolong your ironing time.

The stainless-steel soleplate allows you to handle a variety of fabrics. The smartly curved design won’t cause any tugging or wrinkling as it glides over fabrics of all kinds – it will also move around buttons, along collars and oversleeves, cuffs with very little trouble.

The use of this iron is very simple – just set the NI-L70SRW into its charging base and set the temperature for the fabric you’re ironing. In a minute or two, the temperature is reached and you’re ready to go. To maintain optimum temperature, just place the iron back in the base when you pause to shift garments on your ironing board.

The tank of this iron is no trouble at all to refill – simply fill it at the sink without bringing the whole iron with you. This durable, lightweight water tank easily detaches for no-spill refills. Once again, just like its big brother, the NI-L70SRW has complete control over the temperature on the handle – so you can completely adjust your iron to the fabric you’re ironing.

The anti-calcium system is here to automatically prevent clogged steam vents by reducing sediment build-up in the vaporizing chamber of the iron. The anti-drip system, on the other hand, is here to ensure that no water is leaking through the soleplate. The automatic shutoff system is going to turn the iron off after 10 minutes without use.

MARTISAN Cordless Steam Iron

This powerful steam iron has a wattage of 1500 watts, ensuring that it has lightning-quick heat up of only 30 seconds! This strong and consistent stream of steam ensures that the wrinkles and creases are removed quickly.

The base comes with a handy indicator light, showing you when you have to recharge your iron and when it’s ready for use. The iron attaches securely to its base with our carry-lock system. The cord is easily retracted within the base and held in place with a clip for tidy storage. This ensures that it’s safely stored and that the cord doesn’t automatically pull in.

You can easily control the level of steam with this iron, and it also has a very easy-to-use temperature controller. The 5-range temperature dial makes it easy and precise when you iron a variety of fabrics such as wool, silk, linen, cotton, etc.; this way you can always keep your clothes in perfect status.

The steam can come in two features: spray and burst. Use the spray if your clothes have been left to dry for too long, creases can then become firm fixtures and need a little more ‘negotiating’ to straighten up. Giving fabric a quick spray is a good idea to soften it up and make ironing easier. A quick spritz is all it takes, and it means you don’t have to increase the heat to get a smooth result.

The burst works well for tough wrinkles and heavy fabrics, by pressing the burst steam button.

The water tank has a capacity of 270 milliliters, ensuring that you don’t need to constantly refill it.

The ceramic soleplate is durable and resistant to scratching, and it’s surely going to prove that it’s more than enough to handle all kinds of creases and wrinkles, even with sensitive fabrics. It has a built-in anti-drip function to ensure that no water leaks through the soleplate. This anti-drip function does not cover steaming with low heat.

In order to steam something, the heat setting can’t be on low – the water is not going to heat up enough, and if you press the steam button, water is going to come through the soleplate. This isn’t a malfunction of the anti-drip system, but rather a complication that happens because of a user overlooking the heat setting.

The self-cleaning system is going to make sure your iron has a long life! It removes deposits to maintain performance and increase the iron’s lifespan. There’s a special resin filter inside the water tank that softens the water and prevents calcium buildup in the soleplate. The resin filter is permanent and doesn’t need to be replaced.

Martisan’s irons all pass inspection before being sold, so you don’t have to worry about your iron functioning correctly – it’s an out-of-the-box product.

Rowenta DE5020 Freemove Cordless Iron

Rowenta is famous for its incredible irons, and this particular iron is no different. Cordless technology provides total freedom of movement for high levels of comfort in use.

The lightweight and agile Freemove ensures complete freedom of movement, for optimum comfort-in-use during an ironing session. This cordless iron features smart recharging technology and a beautiful, ergonomic design to deliver quick and easy cordless ironing sessions.

The iron is very light and that ensures that it’s very maneuverable – it’s very agile and easy to glide across all fabrics. The base is adapted to the natural position of the iron – it’s ergonomic and it ensures effortless ironing sessions.

It’s also here to recharge your iron. It incorporates the same technology you’ve already seen once before – it’s going to recharge your iron as you’re readjusting the position of your clothing – just set the iron on the base and it’s going to be ready to go whenever you are!

This iron also uses the automatic shutoff technology that we’ve seen so many times with different irons. When accidentally left unattended, the iron automatically shuts off. If left on its base for longer than 8 minutes it shuts off. To restart the iron, just remove the iron from the base then replace it to charge.

It also uses anti-calcium technology to ensure there’s no calcium buildup from water – you won’t be seeing this iron wasting itself any time soon.

There are a few things that Rowenta does differently in comparison with other brands.

Rowenta offers unique steam distribution across the entire soleplate for better steam penetration and more efficient ironing. Accompany that with Rowenta’s soleplates that have a thick central core of aluminum that ensures quick and even heat distribution across the entire soleplate, no hot spots!

Since their soleplates are made from the highest quality stainless steel, they allow for a maximum glide across all fabrics and reduce the effort of ironing.

Lastly, Rowenta’s irons are made to use regular tap water instead of distilled water, so you don’t have to waste your money on distilled water with this iron.

The last thing I’d like to mention is the beautiful design of this iron – it’s absolutely stylish with a futuristic design.

Final Thoughts on Cordless Irons

There’s a lot of debate about these irons – many experts argue that the added benefit of being cordless can’t make up for lack of efficiency. The iron being cordless is actually the reason behind it.

Since the iron isn’t constantly plugged in, it’s not constantly heating and reheating. This leads to the iron losing heat quickly and the user having to have it reheated. This is true – it’s a common issue with cordless irons, as designers still haven’t found the perfect way to retain heat with cordless irons.

That’s why I added two examples of great cordless irons that have somewhat solved this problem by reheating your iron in between ironings – when you’re resetting your clothes.

This doesn’t, however, solve the problem completely – as engineers will have to come up with a solution for this sooner or later.

Cordless irons are very new to the market, and it’s definitely going to be a few years before we have a cordless iron on the market that’s as good at retaining heat as irons with cords. The freedom that cordless irons warrant doesn’t exactly match up with the lack of heat retention they guarantee, and that’s a major issue.

However, if you’re happy to lose a little bit of heat and power for the sake of having more freedom, then more power to you – you have a list of definitely the best irons on the market in that regard.

Cordless irons are still capable of straightening all sorts of wrinkles that you come across, they’re just less efficient at the job…for now. It’s also true that cordless irons can’t heat up to the temperature achieved with corded irons, and that’s why they’re less powerful.

However, I am a firm believer that these problems will be resolved with time – for now, it’s just something to have in mind when you’re shopping.
